  • We have one solid comfort amidst this little tripping about, our hearts can always be in the same place, centered in God, for whom alone we go forward or stay back.

Welcome to the website of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas New York, Pennsylvania, Pacific West Community.

The Sisters of Mercy are an international community of women religious vowed to serve people who suffer from poverty, sickness and lack of education with a special concern for women and children.

Our Communitysoa_1

We are about 500 sisters and 400 associates from Buffalo, Erie, the Philippines, Pittsburgh and Rochester who continue the legacy of Catherine McAuley, who founded the Sisters of Mercy in Dublin, Ireland, in 1831.

One of six communities in the Institute of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas, the Community performs a variety of ministries ranging from education, health and housing to establishing Houses of Mercy in impoverished neighborhoods and meeting spiritual needs.

Like Catherine, we respond to the signs of the times by committing their lives and resources to work for systemic change in issues such as empowering women, helping immigrants, advocating anti-racism and non-violence and caring for the Earth and natural resources.

You can help further our mission by becoming a sister, associate, or making a donation to our life-giving ministries.
